A Belle Époque palace from 1910 in a private park in northern Portugal, restored and reopened with a thermal spa by Álvaro Siza Vieira — the Pritzker laureate — in white marble.
The water is the reason: natural mineral-thermal water drawn from deep granite wells, in therapeutic use since King Carlos I. Twenty treatment rooms, including couples' hydrotherapy suites. A fifteen-metre indoor pool, an outdoor vitality pool, and a hammam-to-ice-fountain contrast circuit.
Seventy rooms, two Michelin Keys, an eighteen-hole Mackenzie Ross golf course, and complimentary bicycles from reception. The base rate is bed and breakfast; the multi-night packages add dinner with drinks included.
