Achenkirch am Achensee, Austria  ·  50 min from Innsbruck  ·  Adults-only spa hotel

Posthotel Achenkirch

An adults-only Tyrolean house at Lake Achensee whose spa is split across water, sauna and a subterranean temple.

Adults only, eighteen and over, seven thousand square metres, and a subterranean Far-Eastern zone called the Sunken Temple with a Room of Silence, a salt dome and two saunas named after dragons. It is a serious building for people who want to be left alone.

The Yin-Yang pool is the signature: two interlinked circles, one at seventeen degrees and one at thirty-four, textile-free, designed for Kneipp alternation. Two outdoor brine pools at different salinities. An ice grotto at around five degrees with an indoor Zen garden.

Sixty hours a week of supervised movement and relaxation — yoga, qigong, breathwork, meditation — and five hundred square metres of indoor and outdoor fitness including a boulder wall and a boxing studio. The whole place is a phone-free zone, which is either the point or a dealbreaker.

  • Adults only. Adults only, 18 and over, throughout the hotel Children are not admitted anywhere in the house.
  • Minimum stay of seasonal, unquantified; packages 2–7 nights. Shorter stays are usually possible off-season, but ask.

The awards

Recognition

Falstaff Spa Guide 2026 — 99/100RELAX Guide 2026 — three lilies, 18/20klimaaktiv award for climate protection

Falstaff and the RELAX Guide are the two authorities on spa hotels in the German-speaking world — widely trusted there, and almost unknown elsewhere. Falstaff scores out of 100; the RELAX Guide awards up to four lilies, which very few hotels hold. Gault&Millau rates kitchens in toques, four being exceptional.
