Not one more decision
Breakfast that runs late. Something at one. Cake at four, because somebody decided long ago that four o'clock needed feeding. Nobody asks where you would like to eat, and by the second morning you have stopped checking the time. That is most of what people mean when they say they need a holiday.
A guide leaves at nine
Company, if you want it
Someone walks out at nine each morning and you may or may not be with them. The relief is less the walk than not having to think of it, book it, or explain yourself when you stayed in your dressing gown instead.
Springs, not plumbing
Water that was here first
The spring came first and the building arranged itself around it, sometimes centuries later. You feel the difference within ten minutes, and it has little to do with temperature. Mineral water holds you differently, and people who have grown up near it never quite settle for a heated pool again.

The old northern rhythm, and still the most reliable thing in wellness: heat until you have had enough, cold until you gasp, then lying somewhere quiet while your body works out what just happened. Three rounds of it does something no treatment on a menu can.

Not in the pool, not at breakfast, not in the corridor at seven in the morning. This is a short shelf on purpose. Plenty of houses have an adults-only spa floor inside a family hotel, a pleasant thing but a different one. The children are still at the next table. Published hours, qualified staff, and an adult spa with a door that actually closes. Both halves of that sentence have to be true or the week does not work. A house that has planned for both is worth crossing a border for.
